I am glad everyone had a good time with it, I did myself. I made a few posts on the thread in fact. I am conservative by nature in politics and religion but realize there is more to life than hard-line, fundamentalist Christianity and strict, walk the line ideas.
My question is,(I am gonna catch it for this) why can we have a cyber-saloon on this page, yet if one of us posts something about church life or his basic Bible beliefs we are prone to hear "too preachy" or "Bible thumper".
I guess bars and saloons are acceptable country fare and churches are not.Don't get me wrong, I enjoy life, maybe not as much as some of you, but I like having a good time. I also know if one of us had concocted a cyber-church on this site we would have gotten cut off at the knees. I enjoyed the fun of this new type thread, I just wonder why there seems to be a double standard.
Ron,Ar who believes God intended for us to relish each aspect of this short life.

Ron, I've had similar thoughts about this sort of thing.

I've >enjoyed< watching all the saloon bantering because you all were having so much fun [and I certainly like fun more than most people I know!].

I didn't read all the posts because it didn't really "turn my crank," but that's ok. It was fun to see you guys have fun.

After some thought, I think the bottom line is (and I know I'm preaching to the choir on this): Christianity is violently offensive to a lot of people (including my boss, my Dad, most of California, and also the crowd of people who hung Jesus on the cross).

What'd Jesus say..."a servant is no greater than his master. If they hated Me, they will also hate you." (This was on my mind because it was called out in "The Passion" movie. By the way, Ron, if you haven't seen it, check it out.)

Unless you're "on the inside," it really don't make a lot of sense. Before I "came to Christ," I remember thinking about a Christian girl, "what a waste of a life."

So, what're our options? I see it as just keep on trying to do what the Good Book says.

Dave--[who hopes he's not reported to the moderator...because...after all, he thought he was rational, it's still Sunday, and he didn't call anyone names.]

The Passion movie is unforgettable. Now when I hear that old spiritual, "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord", I can answer, "Yes, I was." Because it puts you right there.

Looked like folks letting off steam, having a little fun doing it. No harm in it.
Besides, winter is about over and cabin fever is setting in. Gives an outlet for all that energy built up sitting inside. Can't be serious all the time. Just enjoy it.

Or so it seems to me anyhow.

I'll try to answer that for you Ron (and no I am not offended that you asked)....my figgering is that the cyber-Saloon provided for some comic relief. In order for that to happen you need to use just a little imagination and perhaps just a slight desire to do some of the things that are being posted. In real life most of these folks would never go into a Saloon much less carry-on as they did in ours. It don't make them any much less of a Christian nor any more of a heathen than they already are in real life. I also think that most folks equate a Saloon as a place to have FUN wheras a place of religious worship prolly tends to be more on the serious side of things. Also in a Saloon it is acceptable and customary to make a foll outta yerself wheras that type of conduct won't wash inna Church.

Just my opinion on this ya understand....and in accordance with Saloon tradition subject to change depending upon the amount of consumption. :^)

I fully understand where you are coming from, we did need a relief from the politics and hard feelings concerning the issues of the week before. My question was not what prompted this much needed relief. You and I have spent a lot of time in the same places, Danang, Subic Bay, south Louisiana, I know fully well what life is all about. My question is why is one set of ideas (the saloon) tolerated/encouraged on this site and religious hetoric/beliefs discouraged? I believe the two are both part of country living.
Ron,Ar- who has far more an imagination than most people and is far more tolerant of some others.

Ron's question:

Ron...best I can do for you on that specific question is suggest you do a poll here with THAT specific question. Maybe the Saloon was acceptable because everybody there was in control of what was going on and what they were doing....with current day politics/religion it may seem that we the common folk have little or no control over the direction these issues are going in.

Clipper: who has now confused the heck out of himself.....I'll ping ya my snail-mail addy and pay fer shipping of a bottle of yer homade hooch when yer ready!

Good, this one is so crinkly and worn-out it flaps in the breeze, and scares my horse to death. I think I'll order a dozen.

Do you have to have hair on yer head fer one of them tin-foil hats? I also heard that they draw lightning strikes if worn outdoors....and can induce funny looks from yer neighbors as well. :^)
