I have a neighbor who built a new house and moved in about 2 years ago. She is having problems with carpenter ants getting in. The house is in a wooded area, she does not use wood for heat. Anyone have any ideas about getting rid of them?

Get some Malathion liquid and a sprayer. Spray all around the outside of the perimiter of the house really well. Check the attic and all other parts of the house that are at all hidden....backs of closets and the like. If you find the nest inside, spray them but otherwise don't spray the Malathion inside as it smells to high heaven.

Spray the outside all around once a month from spring until first frost. Nothing much in the way of small critters will be coming in.

Best way to get rid of carpenters is to give them $100 and tell them to start work when they can. Not sure if it works for ants too.

Terro is the best thing that ever happened to humans, using the term loosley, and the worst thing that ever happened to ants.

On this site's opening page, see where there is a field called: "View Archives"? Click View Archives, then type Carpenter Ants in the open field "Search for", & click "Go". Some previous postings are available.

Howdy Jim, Haven't heard from you in awhile. "Wooded area" is kind of an understatement in your neck of the woods ;-)

I don't know how to get rid of the carpenter ants, but if I were her, I'd take them seriously, they can be as destructive as termites. Might need to call an exterminator.

Yep! I rebuilt the engine on it over the winter. New piston, rod, bearings, crank & a new exhaust valve. Got it running like a champ now.
I intended to use it for parts, but there is just enough difference between a 125 and a 123 that the parts I needed wouldn't fit, so I decided to fix it up and use it.
I use it to ride around at shows, took it to Red Power and Rough & Tumble last year. Very handy.

Come on up to the Thresherman's Reunion in August, you can take it for a spin.

I have heard that vinegar gets rid of ants, just pour it into their hill, but I'm not sure about the carpenter ants. And as for around the house, ants won't cross a line of flour if you put it all around the house.
