every state has different rules - here in mn you can bury your own anyplace on your own property - no enbalming or vault or anything needed. once there's 4 graves you'll have to fence it. no vault or enbalming or even casket needed, long as you get a death certificate. |

| I get the feeling that you must have some property that you would like to turn into a cemetery business. There should be some government agency in your area that could answer your question. If that is what you are interested in, the article below might give you some ideas. These are for Texas but I imagine they are similar everywhere. |

I imagine it would be like starting any other kind of business. Look at the market, the competition, the cost of construction, roads, vaults, office and advertising, maintenance and other overhead. Look at the local zoning and other permits, look at state rules and regs for burial and check with environmental agencies. After you do all that homework, you need to establish some sort of price structure. Often, funeral costs are very high and some people can't afford them. Establish some sort of policy for payment and waiver of payment. I think when you get that done, you should be able to come to a decision as to whether or not you are ready to develop your business. Look for a Small Business Development Center in your area. They are funded by the Small Business Administration and offer consulting help on business start up. This is a free service, so don't be fooled by sound alike names. Good Luck in Your venture. Chas, always pulling for the new business owner, up here in Maine. |

Ron, most people have no interest in improving themselves. It's much better for the self esteem to be validated "just as you are" rather than accept a little learning and correction. |

| Let's see.. you dig a hole.. Excuse me, I am being stupid! Are you talking about a country burial plot or in a city? If in the country, and the land is your own, I think you only have to get permission to bury from the county and dedicate the land.. I know of people, within the last 5 years, who have been buried on their own land, with no problems, except for getting them to the plot. |
