Hi all,I managed to pick up a really nasty case of poison ivy over the weekend working on clearing out the lower 8... Someone suggested using Jewel Weed Oil to clear it up. Has anyone here tried this? What are some of your favorite "cures" for poison ivy/sumac/oak? Pete

| Having my first experience with ticks I asked my maillady what to do about the scratching. The country receipe they use here is 1 bottle rubbing alcohol (don't drink), add 24 aspirin (cheapest kind), a cake of camphor (get at pharmacy). Put aspirin in alcohol, grate camphor in alcohol, mix together and you have a $1.00 cure for whatever itches you. She has cattle and many a day she said she has been out feeding them and hit upon poison oak and this is the only remedy that she has found that works. Worth a try. EIEIO

A 95 year old woman told me to use the following for knees that hurt. It is one bottle of green alcohol, 100 aspirins and a cake of camphor. I can not find any pharmacy that still carried a cake of camphor in Houston.

here's a low tech remedy my grandmother told me about. when going to work around brush always rub down any exposed skin with regular ol white vinegar. after finishing working around the poison ivy/oak i rub more vinegar on my skin. sure, it smells, but i don't get poison ivy itch when i use it. granny was right.......as usual.

Make a tea out of 'Sweetfern' leaves and apply liberally for a few days.
Just the smell of the tea brewing makes me have a wholesome sense of wellbeing.
Good for psoriasis and dandruff too.
My Wife washes her hair in it once a week just cuz.I love that smell... ;-)

| Our doctor recommended 'Tec Nu' several years back when the kids were still in Scouts and we had fairly frequent bouts with poison. It works very well; I've since been told that some power companies actually issue it to their linemen. It works best if you know you've been exposed but the rash hasn't appeared yet (keeps it from happening), but it also works pretty well after the skin has broken out, too. You rub it on/in for a minute, then rinse off with cool water. It used to come in pretty big bottles, but they've downsized to little ones now. I think we go through a bottle a year...buy it at the drug store, about 8 or 10 bucks a bottle I think. Tom

Been using it for years. ever time I bushog I come in an shower with the stuff. Haven't had the BIG ITCH since.
