When meauring voltage of a 6 volt battery that is wired with 5 other 6 volt batteries to create a 36 volt sytem (golf cart) How much should each inidividual battery measure?

The charger has an auto shut up. I measured across the posts of each individual battery, and got 8 to 10 volts. Seems quite off.

Some golf cart batteries are really 8 volts with 4 cells instead of 3. Newer batteries have a single fill plate so not readily noticed like older one with 4 fill caps. Large 6 volt batteries, deep cycle, noted to have 7.5 volts(+-) fully charged and relatively new, each cell rated 2.1 volt min but built to do 2.5 for extended life with multiple discharges. RN.

A fully charged 6 volt battery has 6.35 volts in it.

It may go a bit over 7 if being over charged.

Sounds like your volt meter is haywire.
