Any grouse hunters here? I'm thinking about taking a stab at it, at least once. Not a lot of places to go, I guess... |

Not as many here as once was. thanks to the DNR we really needed those pine martins and the wolves are really great also. They seem to run in cycle alot for a few yrs. and then nearly none. But i do remember them being plentiful so it looked like a large flock of cjickens right in the road. One good thing is they don't fly far so always giving you a second flush. |

Yes, blue grouse and sage grouse. Blues opened yesterday here, but I wasted my time dove hunting instead. Will grouse hunt this weekend. Paul. |

I used to go for grouse real regular. There doesn't seem to be as many around like there used to be. They are tough to hit but it can be done. They do give ya a fright when they explode up on ya. It sounds like thunder when real close. |

| I can't remember ever seeing a grouse around here, even though they are the PA State Bird. We used to have a lot of pheasants, but nowadays there are very few, and those that are around are birds that have been stocked by some body. Pheasant hunting used to be quite a lot of fun. |

| Well, the Maryland hunting guide says there are, but I don't know anybody here who as ever hunted them. I saw online there's some decent spots in western MD about 90 minutes from here. Why else hunt, if not for the dog? Oh, and the gun...and the time in the great outdoors...never mind, stupid question. |

| Only dog I ever had that was any good at pointing partridge (grouse) was an old Blue Tick by the name of Duke... Let him out on logging roads and he'd lope along in front of the Jeep till he saw a bird...Then he'd stop and sit lol... Salmoneye, |

I really think you need a shot gun to hunt those things with. I don't think you would be able to get close enough to stab one. |

You guys are all wet - when I was young my grandpa told me - you had to sneek up real quiet and put salt on their tail so they can't fly and then you grab'em. |

| I still get out a couple times a year here on the farm. It'll test your speed and control, but it's a lot of fun if you can find them. I've got a great little spot in some small bottom land pines that they love when they're in the area. Good luck, and try to keep your heart out of your throat when one kicks at your feet. Ron |
