She posted and was lambasted by the now nonexistant Toolman. My opinion, not shared by all was that he was way out of line. She, rightly in my opinion said "Silence is Golden" and was gone. My opinion, not shared by all, was that she was the MVP of the site. So no Lenore - hence pepole making their own birthday and anniversary announcements. Sad.

For the sake of this forum, I vote NO.

It used to be in America, that people could disagree about politics and still be friends. These days, that's not so. Right and left both have the "if you're not 100% for us, you're against us" attitude...with the follow-up being, "and if you're against us, you're too stupid to be a true American, and should die...and the sooner the better."

It used to be in America that there was room for people in the middle, people with moderate views, people who would compromise, taking the best of the ideas of both the right and of the left and using them to improve the lot of all Americans. But today, both the left and the right consider being a moderate as having NO principles, and yet for 250+ years it is the moderates who have kept this nation from plunging into the abyss on either the left or the right. Now the left and the right consider moderation a term to be slung as an insult.

We need moderates. If we were all moderate in our behavior, there would be no need for "moderators" who delete posts, because everyone would be civil with one another...and even politics would be open to discussion. But that's simply my opinion.

reason is....

in this day and age we are now living in, it's no longer just an issue of Dem./Rep. right/left; the REASON the lines are so much more drawn than ever before is because it's a spiritual battle. (which should be of no surprise at this place in time.)

Mercy me....I post pretty much everything except political...in many respects I'm the odd duck out that seldom gets fired up over the topic....

Ol vern and I voted just to find out later in the car that we voted oppisite each other...now Now I get to say ..."I TOLD YOU SO".

For me, I skip over the discussions that appear by the subj line to be political.

As an after thought however...you wouldn't stand in someone elses yard with a friend who also doesn't live there and get in a shouting name calling match...so why do it here? Kim said no...so don't. Simple as that.

People do not know how to behave. We brought this police state on ourselves with our (generally speaking) bad behavior.

We pretty much showed that given enough rein we would take a perfectly fine discussion forum right over a cliff. We chased long time posters away with downright nastiness so we can't act coy now.

I wish that politics could be discussed here in a civil manner but apparently that's not going to happen any time soon.

Sorry for the political joke I posted yesterday, it was liberal-bashing in a way but I thought it was funny even though I am progressive. It didn't last long anyway, although it was nowhere near as offensive as the comic posted the other day that never got zapped. Eh. this poll will not last long either I suspect.

Yes - we used to have one thread that would take up a whole page and two or three pages of new posts per day. Now this site is lucky if it gets a half a page or a page a day. Never understood how it would bother someone what other people wrote if they were not forced to read it. Ever since politics were banned we have less posts and way less people participating.

Yes we used to have two to three pages a day with many people posting. And we did not have the type of post that you seem to insist perpetuating. This is not about what the majority want. It is about what Kim the owner intends for this site to be and what she chooses to allow or disallow. If you guys keep this politics up they way you are. I am almost positive she will shut this site down.

Just to set the record straight--since at least when I started posting here in 1998, political posts have *never* been allowed on this site.

At that time there was a matching/sister site here that did permit political discussion, but it became such a mess that Kim killed it years ago.

The fact is that the incivility here has gotten so bad in the past couple of years that the site owners have simply decided to enforce their rules.

I for one am all for it.

I think it is just rediculous that some folks have such thin skin that they get so upset over someone posting their honest opinion, but on the same hand I think some of the folks like Tom 43 are just flat out nutso's. I can put up with the few nuts to find out what the good folks think.

As Bill said, you said it well. The same as the crying about town hall meeting by real Americans: It's fine when they are doing it unnecessarily, but when actual working taxpayers complain to the powers to be about legitimate problems, the chit hit's the fan. It funny to me that the ones that say that it always evolves into an argument, never say a word when conservatives are attacked but when we stand up for what is right, we are "starting trouble". How damn ridiculous! Ridiculous but true and expected. You are dead on Alias!

"If you don't like a post don't read it!" You know I am getting kinda sick of that little phrase being thrown around. I started visiting this site a little over ten years ago. I liked it because of what it was. Kim has stated very plainly the purpose she set this board up. She at first asked that politics be on a limited basis. The rudeness got so bad she has added this statement "Absolutely no political discussions of any kind." It is right there in plain site, in bold letters,, right above the submit button when you post a message. My first question is. Why should a person who wants to post about something that is obviously contrary to what the owner of the site wants, expexct those of us that came here because of that, be expected to "ignore the post if you don't like it skip over it." That is like taking a dump in some one's living room and saying if you don't like it step over it. I vote NO NO NO a thousand times NO. My second question is. Why not go to a site that welcomes political discussion and is set up for that reason. If you want to discussion political debates just find a site that does. "How hard is that?"

Agreed, Sid. If it's so 'boring' for some folks here, MAYBE they should consider a more exciting site or just pass-over the boring stuff like we were told to do concerning page after page of hate. Just my opinion, but a few folks could do the whole foum a lot of good if they would take as long a look in the mirror as they take a look in everybody else's back yard.

I used to come here for what WAS here, humor, nostalgia, stories, etc., and all about rural life. Then it became a sound board for hate, period, and i'm not sure it will ever be the same again. I vote no, as if anybody decided they cared what i thought or not. My guess would be nothing has changed, and i'm wasting cyber ink.
