Anyone here remember when movie theater's would insert one frame of a picutre of a soft drink or popcorn or candy in the movie? The eye couldn't catch it but your mind could. Anyhow, the end result was you all of sudden crave popcorn/candy/soft drink etc. I don't know why but when I heard about the pres delivering a speah to school kids that popped in to my mind. Maybe I am getting old and senile.

What bugs me is I have DirectTV. I'm watching a movie and there's an ad for whatever.

I'm paying for this nonsense!

Arghh! Gonna' cut it back big time.

Take care.

That was described in the book "The Hidden Persuaders," written by Vance Packard, first published in 1957. The procedure, as I understand, is now ILLEGAL.

Packard died in 1996.

OH yes! I'll keep this short but that man is one I have never forgot. He warned us what would be coming and what to watch for.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone in remembering his message.

Take care.

A high school business teacher put us onto Vance Packard's books. And unlike most of my classmates, I actually read several of them. Another good read about questionable tactics advertisers do--or have done in the past--was one I read for a college journalism class: "Down The Tube," by Terry Galanoy. It comes off as funny, but there's an underlying seriousness that shouldn't be ignored. I'm guessing that "Down The Tube" is probably out of print, but I still have my paperback copy from college.

What is interesting is the proliferation of marketing messages by sponsors in TV shows now.

It's missing the visual body language that goes with it but you get the idea.
