Alternative energy is slowly, slowly coming in. Spain has been the tip of the arrow. They are providers of the technology and are involved in its distribution in Europe.

But it's growing everywhere. They do have a problem with the effect on the areas they are putting it. Hopefully this will be changed somehow. Invariably there is a conflict because of pristine locations being a good place for wind power. But folks are inventive. And with enough care some of the problems will be overcome.

Wind power in Ireland. Wish I could use it.

Hope this is of interest to some of you. There are folks who are putting small units in for their homes. In a way when it can be used it's better than solar energy.

Take care.

The environmentalists are screaming about wind power because some of the large turbines chop up birds and bats.

There's probably a better design for smaller scale use and some light wind applications.

I remember reading about a verticle turbine that looked like a stack of oil drum halves. Doesn't matter which way the wind blows from, or how fast and only minimal wind speed is necessary to get it spinning.

Unfortunately the folks who dole out the money are stuck on solar electric and wind electric when other types of energy conversion are also available.

I read about a system years ago that created heat from mechanical energy created from wind.

I agree with using and finding alternatives to coal, oil or nuclear generated power. From the TV reports I've seen here wind turbines are supposed to be very noisey with some people complaining that they keep them awake at night, even though the turbines are 200meters (220yards) away.

Not to worry about Spain, the US is now the world leader in windpower.

Hundreds of wind turbines are being built in the US. Impact on the environment is minimal and hosting a few turbines is profitable to farmers.

Have you been up here? The ones near Monticello are not on line yet but there are others, west of there that have been running nearly two years. The are stately and very impressive. The first farms are in a randon pattern, while the new ones are in rows and look like rows of giant warriors march south. As you travel down I-65 you can see the turbines on both sides of the road.
