I have a co-worker who needed a ride to work about 3 months ago. No problem because I drive right by his house. Supposed to be for a few day's while he got his car fixed. turned into 6 weeks. his car was running but he said he didn't trust it. finely he started driving it and it broke down again. for the last week i've been his taxi and he just called needing a ride tomorrow. I said ok but he has a new car his wife drives when she works which she is not at the moment. Without hurting his little feeling's how can i tell him I'm tired of driving his butt around? by the way he's a really nice guy but still...

Just tell the neighbor.....you were talking to your auto ins agent.....this is truth, and they told you if you transport folks, your premiums could raise, so in order to stay within your operating budget, you can no longer transport him.

He is using you, if he doesn't offer to even pay for gas. You aren't the local taxi service. But years ago, my ins. says oh yes, ins rates do go up when carpooling....because of any libality suits if you all are involved in auto acc.

some folks would call him a moocher. a quiet little talk about gas money for the 'taxi' service and a hint or two about getting his own transportation ASAP. keep it friendly, but firm.

nailbender,
If you accept money for the ride, it MAY give the Insurance Co an excuse to not pay if involved in a fender bender especially if it's a serious accident involving lots of money.
They have been known not pay, if there is a little wiggle room.

if it is not out of your way, why not put one less car on the road...maybe he would kick in some gas money if he were asked...

agreed...

something like...

"Well since we are doing this anyways how bout we just car pool from now on. We can either trade off on driving or you can pay part of my gas every week."

See what he says and go from there.

No gas money no ride. People will take advantage of you only if you let them.

Rather not talk to people on the way to work. Only the Tim Horton girl.
Its my time to gear up to face the many morons at the job site.

The best way to get around your situation is to lie and say you have to pick up a relative each day at a destination that may cause the late arrival to work for you both...and the relative. Tell him how sorry you feel but its a relative, oh my.

Tell him if he really wants to carpool, you will drive the first week, he can drive the second. Then call him Sunday night and say it is his turn to pick you up Monday. If he says he can't do it, you say "okay, I'll see you at work."

ask him for gas money as I find that usually will stop a person from asking for rides. LOL

if the wife and kids (if they have any) are without a vehicle if he drives the new car wouldn't be good in a lot of ways.Just tell him get car fixed or replaced asap because ya dont mind helping out in a fix but you prefer to ride alone and that is the truth anyway. If he is a good guy he should understand.Truth is the way to go about it.If he truly needs help then help if he dont make him stand on his own.
