gray clay in southern WA
Here's one of my pole barn holes - a little different clay than EIEIO. When it's dry and you drive a tractor over it, it breaks up and it looks, feels and acts like Portland cement - pure powder that flows like water when you push it around. The Bobcat was rented - couldn't handle hand digging seventeen holes, 18' diameter by 4 ft deep in this stuff, and the auger I have available is only 12' and 3 ft. long. Undisturbed, this clay takes a pick to loosen it. But sure beats rock!
