| My dog still hasn't learned that the little black critters at the cabin are not the neighbors' cats. I have read all the suggestions on this message board plus have heard from the hunters and farmers on many de-skunk solutions and have tried them all, and most all work to some degree. The tomato juice wash works, but not instantly. It will take about 12 hours for the smell to go away. Here is the best de-skunk method; Mix 1 quart of Hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap such as Dawn which is a good degreaser. Wash dog immediately with this mixture, leave it on the dog for at least 5 minutes or until the odor is gone, then rinse. If the dog was heavily saturated with skunk spray, then you may need to repeat the wash. Be kind to animals; if it is cold weather, be sure to thoroughly dry the animal before putting outside. If you are like me who lives miles away from local store, keep an ample supply of ingredients on hand at all times so you can wash the dog immediately. This really works.
