Emergency Shoe-Lace Repair
If the end of your shoe-lace gets frayed (making it almost impossible to thread through your boot or shoes) and you can't afford or don't want to buy new laces, try the following;

Twist the frayed end of the shoe lace and dip it in melted wax. Shape it into a point before the wax hardens. This fix won't last forever, but it will do in a pinch!
