| When toenailing a board, it can be difficult to drive the nail through the center of the board. There is a tendency for the nail to stay toward the edge and sometimes even break through the fibers leaving little or no hold on the board being toenailed. Bend the tip of the nail just a small amount and pound the nail at a perpendicular angle into the board you are toenailing. It will turn as it goes into the wood and give you a perfect toenail. If you bend the tip too far the nail may enter the wood and turn too quickly even coming out before it reaches the end of the board. Experiment first. Chris, from WA, entered 1999-12-18 |
