| Want an easy to do and reasonably affordable shop floor? Stretch a string line across the area and work the dirt floor smooth, as if you were finishing concrete. Make this surface 1 inch below your desired finished floor surface. Put down a double layer of 6 mil black plastic moisture barrier over the dirt. Put down a layer of 1/2 inch particle board fitted snug. You can use scrap lumber for the first layer if you got it. Adjust your thickness calculations accordingly. Over that layer put a layer of 1/2 inch particle board and give much attention to tight fitting edges & ends. Next cut 4 X 4 inch squares from scrap sheet metal. Use 1/2 - 3/4 inch long shingle nails to nail the squares over all the 4 corner junctions of the top panels. Nail the same way 2 X 4 inch metal strips at 2 foot intervals on all the panel edge joints. This type of floor is easy on the feet and legs. It is also easy to repair if damaged.
