| When I was a little girl I often stayed with my Grandma Porter and many times watched her making a cake. She always dropped the cake pan with the batter inside several times before putting it in the oven. I never asked why but saw her do it often. One day at home with my mother I saw her doing the same thing and I asked her why she did that, she said 'I dont know, but my mother always did it'. Sure enough when I grew up and had a family I found myself doing the same thing and my answer to anyone who asked why, was, 'I dont know, but my mother always did it'. Now my daughters are grown and I've heard them saying the same thing to their children. I knew of course that my grandma and my mother and I all did it to get the bubbles out of the batter, but it was sort of a tradition by then, maybe a silly one, but along with the answer 'I dont know, but my mother always did it' comes many happy memories and great cake, too.
