Kountry Life Memories

Lost Melody
As a young boy I can recall spending allot of time on my Uncle Waynes farm near Mt. Vernon IA. It was a special place, with special sounds, all of which to me seemed like a harmonious melody. One of the special sounds that I recall is the all-night long high pitched tinny tune of hog feeders slamming shut. 'Ping ping ping ping.' This tune was played by the hogs, who would of course feed at the hog feeders throughout the night. In the summer time, when it was hot and we would sleep with the windows open, I would listen to this melodious rythm that would soon fade as I drifted off to sleep. Today this melody is not being played, on many a farm that use to have such a band. I wonder who is sleeping now? In this case I think the good old days really were just that. Good old days, and the music was great!
