Kountry Life Memories

Grandpas Farm
My Grandpa worked for the railroad but farmed on the side. He had retired before I was born, but continued farming after retirement. I lovingly recall our visits to their farm when I was a youngster. He had probably 15 cows, 4 horses, chickens and occasionally pigs. He would rise before sunrise and go out and do his chores. To this day, I'm still an early riser. I loved going out and 'helping' him do this. He was always willing to let me. We would feed all of the animals, gather eggs and milk the cows. He always had a horse that was named after me(and probably named after any of my other cousins who happened to ask). He let us ride around his property. When we were done with chores, we would always come in to Grandma cooking breakfast. She was a good cook, and you NEVER went hungry at her house. Grandpa and Grandma have both passed on now, but whenever I feed my goats and pigs and smell the wonderful smell of feed or the awesome aroma of hay, I think back to my youth and Grandpa's farm.
