Kountry Life Memories

Starting School in the Fall
The elementary school I attended back in the '60's was just across the bayou from a cotton gin. Every year when school began in the Fall the cotton harvest would also be in full swing with the cotton gin running day and night. At that time most gins had a giant furnace built in which the trash that was removed from the cotton during the ginning process was dumped into and burned. This fire burned for two or three months until all the cotton was ginned. The cotton gin is still there today(as is the schoolhouse) and still ginning that 'white gold' and every year when I smell that 'trash' burning I remember those great times I had as a kid in school.
