Kountry Life Memories

way back when cont.
'Whoa Nelli' Grandad would pull into the shop with that old nash rambler right next to an old worn out rocking horse and express his delight to be back home. Needless to say as a young feller I decided to name that old horse Nelli. Grandad had a great shop, he had used parts for repairing almost anything. He had a bunch of old vaccum cleaners that had worn out cords on them and he was always telling me not to play with them. I just could not resist wanting to know what they would do when plugged into the electrical outlet. I watched through the crack of the door one day as he went to the house for something and plugged the old thing in. WoW that thing bellered some hot sparks and smoke like you never seen before. Knocked me down on the floor and bit like Heck. By the time I got up and looked around, Grandad was walking through the door. I knew I was going to get it for that stupid prank. His words were spoken softly and lovingly as I think he knew I probably learned a lesson when he saw my blackened face and hands. When Grandad passed away I was standing by his bed talking to him as he had talked to me that day, softly and with much love.
