| This is the house referred to in the 'Steam Engine Powering Sawmill' photo. This picture of the house almost completely framed shows my grandfather and uncle on the rafters. And if you look real close, my mother, as a little girl, is sitting in front of the house, holding her dog. She and I argued for years about whether or not that was her sitting in the front, then I enlarged the picture using a scanner, printed it out, and showed it to her. She had to agree, it was her. The main portion of the house has not changed all that much. There's a front porch on it now, as well as an addition on the back. When the house was built, there was 2400 square feet of floor space. When the addition was built on about 40 years ago, it brought the total up to almost 2900 square feet. And all the framing, boxing, etc, is all made from white oak. Talk about a real pain to work with over 75 years later. It's like trying to drive a nail into a piece of steel. |
