I still own and operate one of those sweet running 671 Detroit Diesel Allis Chalmers HD15s. Mine is all hydraulic (no cables). I've put a lot of hours on it and don't consider it a man killer. It'll sure do a lot of work in a relatively short time, if you know how to operate it. The hand clutch doesn't pose any problems - it's just a coordinated effort between the throttle and the clutch to operate it smoothly and not abuse the clutch.

I've got a Caterpillar 955 track loader too. Same size as a D5. That's got a hydrostatic drive.
