I just suffered a massive stupid attack!! My planter wouldn't fold. It has a semi-complex conglomeration of electric over hydraulic switches controlled from the cab through a box. I went through the whole trouble shooting procedure as best I knew, couldn't find anyrhing. So I called the local John Deere dealer, talked to th eservice manager who I know well, between the two of us we still couldn't figure it out. He said he had a mechanic in my neighborhood just finishing up on a service call, and that he'd send him over. I said great. He was here in 5 minutes. Great. I got in the cab and put it through it's paces doing what he told me. After about 2 minutes of this he told me to shut the tractor off and rellieve the hydrauluc pressure. He messed with the hose connectons, then matter of factly told me to fire up the tractor and fold the planter-I did, it worked, a light bulb came on iiin my head, my face turned red, and I said--uh---and he said yep.
"So, I just wasted 2 hours of field time, plus the price of a service call, because I wasn't smart enough to check the most simple thing first??"
He just grinned widely and said:"Yep"
Not much else to say at that point other than a rather sheepish--"Uh--thanks---"
Looks like I'm in for a good ribbin next time I go in that place!!
