Just got back from the house residents call "the stinky house". It is the most f*'d up scene. In a nutshell my gas detector pegged the sump pump and the newly installed ejector sump as the source. the new owners replaced the sewer line that was cracked 6 months ago. city reports indicate neighbor complaints since 1997. The sump takes ground water that passes thru organic sludge and goes to/from the drain tile and dumps it into the sump pit. Years of a sewer line leak, close to the house, and a high water table causes the gass to emit via the cracked sump basins and drain tile into the house...will be reccommending they put in immediately fresh air returns, perhaps drain tile suction and possibly sump pit replacement. the copper looked like it was in a fire. corrosion even got into the wire nuts. the burner tray. I hung copper test plates every where in the house. will be hanging ph stips to see what is in the air.. 4 kids in the house. 1 kid has ashthma.......
