Hi Les, I don't know a hill of beans about grafting, but I still have the grafting knife that belonged to my great-uncle. I put it up somewhere and don't have it to describe at present, but I recall it had different unusual blades. He died in 1940, but had a great apple and pear orchard during his lifetime. There is one pear tree left that has suddenly started producing pears after many years of being unproductive. I have no idea why. My father told me once when we were rocking on the front porch, "You better ask me any questions that you have now, because after I'm gone it will be too late". I told him, 'Daddy, I'm sure you are right, but I just can't think of anything now". Boy, I wish I had him back because I have just a few questions. I understand exactly what you mean when you say that you are now the oldtimer. I have read several of your posts and I would be interested in hearing about your family history if you care to discuss it. This is an interesting subject to me and I have documented my family since we came to this country in 1682. However, I have not had any close communications with anyone from as far north as you. Good luck.
