A Little Fooler

Saw this thing while making a hay cutting round. Suspicious seeing it whole rather than crushed on my turn around I ignored it for a paper wasp nest having fallen off the mower conditioner, the machinery having passed before this thing had perhaps vibrated loose here. Leaving it I finished the field and going up to the house I asked Frieda if she’d like a ride out back.
My curiosity getting the better of me I had to return to the scene. Frieda beside me we saw a couple dear grazing the alfalfa field harvested last week Taking the longer round about tour to the fallen what’s it.
So here it is. As usual, I got in close to get a good look….



….eventually deciding it was some sort of a drying down fungi. I was surprised to find it so tough and stable. A puff-ball in this dried state would have been a green cloud of smoke or dust hovering about our persons.
