I say he should buy the Poulan, and put a Stihl chain on it. He should keep the chain very sharp, to avoid putting undue strain on the engine, and other structures. It's the chain that does the cutting, and the rest just makes the chain go. He shouldn't expect the cheap saw to hold up to abuse, like the pro saws do, but it will serve well, if he doesn't try to make a living with it.
