Sounds like a very charming cabin. Must be quite a sight in the winter! I visited a friend in Duluth several years ago. It was April, still snow/ ice on the lake. She was in the second story of an old Victorian, on that granite hillside above the lake. The landlords lived downstairs, and controlled the heat for the whole house - and they were very stingy! I slept with a hat on, double layers of sweats, and didn't mind when her dog and cat climbed in the bed. All huddled together with those animals, I was still so cold!
