I am SO SORRY I didn't come back last night and respond to the questions, I got sidetracked and ended up falling asleep on the couch!
Dave and Rickstir,
We did not get stuck. When we reached the hog I told Jake I would help him load her but he wouldn't let me, he said he was afraid I'd get bit. She only weighed about a hundred pounds, so he dragged her up on the tailgate back feet first and brought her home and put her in the hog trap. Three days later he shot her and butchered her.
Gunner and Mudcat
I know and I worry about both those issues all the time. He goes off and stays gone for days at a time and comes home cut and beat up. (The dog not Jake.) Mudcat, Jake wears brown patch Wranglers, which helps. He says he's been gouged many times and the jeans protect his legs. Other than that he just tries to be real careful. He carries a Nextel too, so in case he gets in trouble he can beep someone. Do you have a Nextel or do you know anybody who has one? I would love for you and Jake to be able to talk and exchange notes. How far away are you from Hardee County? Why don't you come over?
yes they are good eating and I wish you could go with them. I am going maybe this weekend.
Donna and Alias,
thank you, I have the best time listening to that boy and his stories. Remember I don't make them up, I just write them down.
There is no one place to find them, I try to post stories where I think people will relate to them. But I appreciate you asking. The best thing to do is what you said, just do a search for C J Mouser.
I'm so glad you enjoy them. The people here on KL have encouraged me and pushed me and referred me to magazines and web sites to share these stories. Without them, I never would have gone beyond posting them here. I think small. They made me think bigger. To me, one of these stories is like a letter to my mama. If you have the material (which I am lucky enough to have) then it's just a matter of finding out where to put the commas and quotation marks. Thank you.
Don't you even talk like that! Bears. Even brown patch Wranglers would be useless against a bear! (smile)
yeah, he does that to me too. Jake that is. Like the time he called me from the school bus because he had seen a white Ford pickup broke down on the side of the road. He thought it was me. It wasn't but it was touching anyway.
"What could you have done about it, honey?"
"I don't know. Maybe you could have rode the bus with me."
You are SO RIGHT. There's an element of danger, but not nearly as bad as huffing paint or running around the streets at night. Thanks.
