German 43 cal/11mm mauser 'A' cartridge for model 1871, 71/84 mauser military rifle was basic case for reduced bore sporting cartridges in drillings and single shot rifles. 30.43 could then be .30 caliber bullet in .43 cal case- english terms, sort of like 7/308 being 7 mm bullet in 308 case. 30.43 possible .30 bullet in 43mm case length? this would be about the length of early 1900s Mauser 'short' cartridge, short action- what would be used for something like .223 or 22/250 cased cartridge. I would expect metric designation-7.62x43 for german gewehr, but english terms common for sporting arms- especially for rifles made for export market. Was this a single shot rifle with falling block or Martini type action? Small bolt action? Your terms are close , but not the exact proper terms I would expect from a german rifle, close to english pattern terms for a couple possibile cartridges. RN.
