I'm so glad you did all this while i was offline, otherwise i'd have worried about you. Tractors can hurt ya girl! Jeez! And JDs aren't particularly built with human drivers in mind! I think whoever designed them was either measuring Martians or martinis, hard to tell.
I'll hafta admit, i pulled a dirty trick to introduce the missus to driving tractor though -- I'd borrowed a Farmall with a Farmhand on it (you know, the big cubic kind that jingle like a harness when they start bouncing?) and had it going dwon the tar and she was following in our Datsun pickup.
Well, she HATED to drive the Datsun so at a pee stop, i talked her into trading seats. Just to try it. Okay, she sat down & let the clutch out real easy and it started picking up a nice even speed so i figured she's doin good! Had her shove the clutch in one more time so i could grab road gear, and i just hopped off the back. Well, it got going faster and started bouncing and "you-you"-ing and the Farmhand started jumping and jingling and she started yelling my name in sheer terror.
By that time she was going too fast for me to catch her on foot, so i hadta run back, fire up the Datsun & catch up. About a half-mile later i did, and by then the thing had rolled to a stop, she's got her left foot halfway thru that clutch, she's scared to death and the engine's bellerin away, and when i finally got the throttle down and could hear her again, i quickly learned that she was a NOT happy camper, let me tell ya! That little gal rattled off a string of swear words that would scare the fork outa Lucifer's tail, and about every tenth word in between was "NEVER" .........
(Needless to say, we haven't discussed the experience since. If you want to bring it up, go ahead but let me get supper, a blanket & a running start, okay?) heh heh
