Irish spring for Mice

I was watching the Sportsmen Channel yesterday and saw this guy that offered this advice.

He said, if you have a boat and are worried about mice coming aboard and destroying things such as electrical wiring, carve out some chips of Irish Spring Soap and place them in stratigic places. According to him, mice don't stay where there's Irish Spring soap.

The pieces were about as big as your thumb only about 1/8 inch thick. He placed several pieces in a 3 or 4 inch diameter aluminum foil pie pan.

Has anyone out there tried this method? Does it work? .........gfp
