The real issue here is, "What's wrong with your perception?" You would rather see the water than the trees. That's fine, but what about the people who like to see the trees. If you don't own it you don't have the right to change it. You should be very thankful of that fact and the fact that other people respect this. Think about the neighbor that would like to live seclusion, without having to see your house in his view.
