They're right! I've seen many guys get caught up with building a trailer. The parts & welding soon exceed new cost, then they reverse the shackles or use flimsy wheels or the wrong ply tires or something, and pay a log truck to hoist the mess & fetch it home from another state.
If you're not creating a tight schedule here - start looking thru the pictures in a $2 equipment magazine from the gas station. Many good, cheap, rated used trailers there. Then you're down to fighting with a decent hitch.
