Bill, Here in Pa. I'm getting ready to start gathering sap next month. As Salmoneye said it probably won't hurt them a bit, but it wouldn't hurt to paint them when they are good and dry,
there is a commercial product called "Treekote" that works fairly well but again I usually do the old paint thing.
I'm not surprised that you are seeing the run begin in TN already, we've had alot of tree damage this year from Ice and heavy snow, and we are seeing it this week.
