Hello, Be sure all burner parts are clean. Use good clean kerosene, and proper flue venting ! The most common problem when starting, is flooding out. This comes from turning on the oil too soon and or too high after lighting the alcohol. I add 2 oz of alcohol, lite it, wait about 3 minutes or when the alcohol starts to really burn bubbly, then turn on the oil to a mid point in the start range. Then wait a few minutes, and it usually starts with a poof of smoke and flame. Let the flame settle, then make gradual small increases to desired level. If if fails to start by the time the alcohol is burned off, turn oil off, let the burner cool off from the alcohol burn !! Then repeat all steps to start the stove. You can use a little more alcohol in the start if your stove starts hard. Remember the key to a successful start, is to have a good hot alcohol preheat, before you turn on the oil .
