'Tedding' hay

Another city-boy-who's-trying-to-learn-farming question:

I really need a hay tedder, but can't afford one right now. Is there any other way to stir up hay on the ground, like maybe adjusting my old side delivery rake?

Wife and I used hand rakes on a few acres in 95 degree heat to apart some too-thick windrows so they'd dry...ain't doin' that again. But there must be a better way?

thanks for y'alls help,
Tom
