In this neck of the woods, and in my travels, I've noticed the popularity of different brands of tractors is tied very closely to the proximaty of a good dealer. Price, specs and service availibility are the most important criteria when a tractor, or just about anything, is purchased new. There was a good Ford dealer here up until about the late 70's, there are now a lot of older Ford's around. Very few Ford/New Hollands', dealer's too far away. Lot's of newer Case and JD's around now. Mostly JD's but the IH/Case dealership has just had a major expansion. Will probably be a lot more Case tractors out in the fields shortly as the competition heats up. I have one of the old fords, 48 8N, and it suits my needs mostly. Will be looking for a bigger tractor this year as brush hoggin' large areas in 5' swaths is getting old. In fact as I get older power steering is looking more attractive.

Just my 23HP worth.
Jim
