About a year and a half ago someone, I can't remember who posted about a device to level off the commercials. I got myself a couple of them. They are available at "heartlandamericadotcom". Just search for "TV volumn regulator". $30 plus S & H. The only down side is you have to run the sound by way of audio cables to the TV, so you need to use your VCR as a receiver and then can not record and watch something else at the same time. I am real happy with the performance of this device. It does a good job of keepng the volumn even during commercials as well as the difference of volumn when changeing channels.

Disclaimer:

My only association with this device is that I am a satified user.
