Pretty much nonstop, although some of the things I had planned didn't occur. Lost our longest-owned goat suddenly Friday night. She'd never been sick a day in the 8 years we've owned her, nor the 3 years her previous owner had her. I went to the barn Friday evening to feed, change water and such, and she was down. Couldn't move, but didn't appear to be in pain. Called the vet, who made it out about an hour later; she thinks it may have been some kind of internal tumor that burst suddenly. Anyway, Bobbie passed away quietly minutes after the vet arrived. So, Saturday morning saw me digging a grave in the back pasture, next to the 30+ year old donkey we lost just last month. It is tough when all your animals get old at about the same time. Anyway, on a more positive note, I shovelled 6 tons more gravel into my drainage ditch. Now I just need to top it off with the soil/sod and get rid of the 11 tons of dirt that won't fit back now that the trench is filled with gravel! Amost done! Watched a swarm of bees from who-knows-where over the back mountain come and occupy a vacant hive I had sitting on my shop's porch. Beautiful site, they came down the hill, and settled into the hive and started working within an hour. By saturday, it looked like they'd been there forever. Then yesterday afternoon we watched as a bluebird family appears to have picked our til-now vacant Purple Martin house to nest in. We were hopeful to get Martins this year, since there had been scouts in it for a time last year, but nothing. So we're very happy to have the bluebirds. And finally, and most important to me, got word that Chris will fly back in to Ft Benning on Sunday--Mother's day sure seems to be appropriate time for him to make it home. So today is his final day at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) and then he starts the long trek home tomorrow! Thanks for all your prayers for him and his troops. Y'all have a great week...I gotta get to work. Tom A
