Several years ago, I bought my mom (she's 73) a cordless Black and Decker trimmer. She's pleased with it as it does just what she needs it for. Mom is very independant and still likes taking care of her own yard. Since I bought her the trimmer, she doesn't use near as much Roundup as she used to. We also got her a cordless leaf blower. I will concede that the cordless tools don't have the oomph as the two cycle gas operated machines, in a lot of uses they are effective enough.
