I read through the information on the link, but didn't find the answer to my question: Are the Duggers Mormons?

In our area, most of the larger families are composed of Mormons, as apparently it is encouraged for families to have lots of children in that religion. I don't know how many times my wife or I have been asked "what ward are you from?" since we raised 5 kids. No, not Mormons, but lots of our friends are, we just enjoyed our kids and that was how it worked out.

In lots of ways, I think it is a shame that so many families only have one or 2 children these days. There are things that you learn by having a number of siblings that I wonder if you are ever exposed to if you are an only child or have only one brother or sister. Lots of those things you learn are helpful in getting along later in life.

Unfortunately these days it is incredibly expensive to raise children in the manner that is expected by many. Like Gilly, I grew up in a fairly large rural family. We worked hard on the ranch and were probably pretty poor, but I guess we kids never really felt that way. It was a good way to grow up and I have always remained very close to my parents and siblings.

I wonder how the Duggers have managed to be where they are and have no debt...it must be a good story. And if, in fact they have not received government assistance, I say more power to them. The family looks happy and well cared for. I am impressed with the idea of all of them learning music on 2 instruments. It also would be interesting to see how the children compare to conventionally educated students on standardized tests.

I think pregnancy affects different women differently. I know gals who had one child and then said never, never again. And some that were told by their physicians that it would be very bad for them to become pregnant again. But some women handle being pregnant very well, and it is not that big of a problem to them. Apparently Mrs. Dugger is one of those ladies. I wonder if she will be done with this one?

My wife said no more after 5, with the last two only 13 months apart. I suppose that we really couldn't have afforded more children, but I sure would have enjoyed 1 or 2 more. We like children and have had great luck with all five of them. All 5 have bachelor's degrees and all of them are doing well as adults. Our family remains very close, although there are a bunch of miles between some of us. We talk back and forth all the time.

I wish the Duggers well, and hope things continue to be fine for them.
