Mommy and I no likey the puppy pads. Our theory is that it says to the little pup, "sometimes it is OK to potty in my house." And then when no potty pad is there and, they go on the floor, they don't understand why Grandma and Momma get so mad.

Mom has trained Tia, Tucker, Tipsy, Mia, and Molly (All Shih Tzus)without the use of the puppy pads. Here's what we do...Take them outside every two hours on the dot. Even at night. Use the same door each time. When they go potty they get lots of praise and sometimes a treat. :) Eventually they will understand that outside is for potty and they go to the door to let you know it's time. You won't have to do it every two hours for long. You and the puppy will develop a schedule. It only takes us a couple weeks and the puppy has it figured out. They will never have the idea that pottying in the house is acceptable.

I have several layers of newspaper in the pool and I watch for when they pee and poop. As soon I see it I remove the wet and soiled paper. And they usually all pee and poop at about the same time because they all eat at the same time.

Lacy is way over on the right side in this picture.
