I'm a believer, too. But throughout the old Testament, God supported Israel when the people followed him, and punished them unmercifully when they did not. Every few generations, the Israelies would offend the Lord and get punished for it, then they'd get back into line for awhile. Sounds like us.

So my point is, when they're wrong, and they often are lately, then we have no obligation to "defend" them.
