I understand your position now. I don't agree with it, but I see what you're saying. BTW my dad grew up in a fishing village in Tobago, went to University, worked for the government, started his own business and simply will not retire! For him judicious investments in his future and ours (kids) worked out. I'm sure along the way investments generated debt.

We come from different traditions.
