Better take a closer look at our own backyard here in this state. Arkansas still ranks near the bottom as far as quality of education, dollars spent per child and pay per teacher. And make no mistake, athletics is just as important a priority here. Even losing teams with losing seasons pack stadiums week after week. If you doubt the amount of money spent here in Arkansas on "friday night fights", go drive something like I-40 on a friday night in the fall and count the yellow school buses criss-crossing the state in the name of athletics. Has next to nothing to do with academics.
