I get a chuckle out of Paula, ’changing her ways”. I heard the same thing from another young person, how can I save any money, etc.
We have spoiled our young people, we wanted them to have more then we did. More of what??? A bigger house, better cars, better education, more “things“.???? Did we teach them that they have to pay for those ‘things.’ When it comes right down to it they don’t pay for anything. What are the payments, is the question?? So the middle class everyone is screaming about is paying interest on one or more cars, a house, on anything else they can put on their credit card. Not indenting to pay for anything.
I grew up before credit cards were handed out like pop corn. You might have a oil company card for gas, and if you real rich you might have a department store card.(they all had their own) Being “rich” doesn’t have the same conation it used to have. Have enough credit cards and you can have a house as big as Bill Gates. Have six cars and a boat in your drive way, you don’t own any of them. Who does the numbers on all the payments, the banks that’s who. Everyone is wondering how this country got into such a mess. Don’t jump on me yet, that is only part of the problem. Heaven only knows I don’t have an answer to all.
We seem to have lost pride in what we do. I made a tapestry cover for a padded footstool for my daughter. There are a couple little glitches, not to bad. A young friend asked me why I didn’t just go buy one. Sure as he33 took the wind out of my sails. When I see things people here on KL make I have hope. When I see people that want to cut down on food bills, I have hope. Once in a while you will find a person who plans their shopping so they go only once a week. What would happen if all the 24/7 stores shut down.
We have lost pride in our country, that could be a whole thread so will not go there.
Sure life is different now, but the basics are the same. The love of God ,country and apple pie are the same. A parents love for their children is the same. A straight A report card is the same.(sad to say most have two houses to show it in)
We all have something to give, it may be love for another person, it may be something we can make for ourselves or another person, it may be time we spend helping someone else, it may be you could make someone laugh, it may be taking cared of yourself so you will be around longer for your loved ones. Look around, give what and where you can, this world will be better place.
