Butternut squash can take over a yard in short order, but give bushels of easy keeping winter squash. My wife and I tried a Japanese variety a year ago, called Kabocha, they are small, almost single serve, deep orange inside and nearly as sweet as yams. We love em. We also raise winter squash to feed to the goats in winter.
