I've lived most of my 61 years in the country. It's been 38 years since the last time we moved. MOst of the time we've had the same neighbors. With a very few exceptions, I never knew the political affiliations of any of them. Don't want to know. Obviously they don't want to know mine, since none have asked. About 2 months ago, we got a new neighbor. She's a 70 year old retired school teacher that moved from the city. It's become very obvious that she's wanting to spread her political/moral influence throughout her new neighborhood. It's not going over too well. For one, she's not "mainstream" with her opinions. Any person who thinks outside the box should consider where they're at when they publicly announce their thoughts. She's now in a rural, conservative area. Her ideas and ideals seem to be more attuned to the liberal, big city, bigger government line of thinking. She's not meeting with a great deal of acceptance. What SHOULD she expect? Now, if she would have kept her politics to herself, she would have had NO trouble fitting in. We're a friendly, peaceful, polite crown for the most part. But waltz in and start spouting comments that obviously fly in the face of "mainstream", and you get what you get.

Moral of the story? Be a likeable person and people will like you. Stay neutral. Don't upset the delicate balance and see which way the wind blows before you make your deepest secrets known to all.

All in all, the majority of the people in this world aren't too bad. You simply have to show them a little respect and not put them on the defensive.
