If it is possible to open a hole through the wall from an adjacent room, you might be able to see what is going on under the tub. The hole also might allow you to shove some bracing under the tub. It's probably not the coolest idea, but I would consider spraying several cans of expanding plastic foam under there if there is no good way to use conventional wood blocking.

Another thought is if this work was done recently, maybe you should get in touch with the contractor and convince him to make the work right. You may have consumer protection laws on your side.
